Expansion Around the Mean-Field Solution of the Bak-Sneppen Model

چکیده
We study a recently proposed equation for the avalanche distribution in the Bak-Sneppen model. We demonstrate that this equation indirectly relates t, the exponent for the power law distribution of avalanche sizes, to D, the fractal dimension of an avalanche cluster. We compute this relation numerically and approximate it analytically up to the second order of expansion around the mean-field exponents. Our results are consistent with Monte Carlo simulations of the Bak-Sneppen model in one and two dimensions. [S0031-9007(97)05281-2]

Fluctuations and correlations in two-dimensional Bak–Sneppen model
The self-organized criticality in the two-dimensional Bak–Sneppen model is studied from the fluctuations of the mean fitness and the jump of the minimum sites. An ensemble having the same number of updates from the initial state is used in the investigation. From the Gaussian distribution of the mean fitness in the ensemble, the lattice size dependence of the ensemble-averaged fitness is found....
متن کاملSolution of the Master Equation for Bak-Sneppen Model of Biological Evolution in Finite Ecosystem
The master equations describing processes of biological evolution in the framework of the random neighbor Bak-Sneppen model are studied. For the eqosystem of N species they are solved exactly and asymptotical behavior of this solution for large N is analyzed.
متن کاملOn singular probability densities generated by extremal dynamics
Extremal dynamics is the mechanism that drives the BakSneppen model into a (self-organized) critical state, marked by a singular stationary probability density p(x). With the aim of understanding of this phenomenon, we study the BS model and several variants via mean-field theory and simulation. In all cases, we find that p(x) is singular at one or more points, as a consequence of extremal dyna...
متن کاملThe Bak-Sneppen Model on Scale-Free Networks
We investigate by numerical simulations and analytical calculations the Bak-Sneppen model for biological evolution in scale-free networks. By using large scale numerical simulations, we study the avalanche size distribution and the activity time behavior at nodes with different connectivities. We argue the absence of a critical barrier and its associated critical behavior for infinite size syst...
متن کاملZero-temperature criticality in a simple glass model
We introduce the strongly-interacting trap model, a version of Bouchaud’s trap model for glasses [Bouchaud J-P 1992 J. Phys. I France 2 1705]. At finite temperatures the model exhibits glassy relaxation over intermediate timeframes but reaches a steady state at finite times. In limit of zero temperature and with a suitably renormalised timescale the model maps onto the Bak-Sneppen model, widely...
